Fridge repair tip #3 - Motor not running & freezer defrosting.
Check the easiest first remember. Check to see that there is power to the fridge and always try to avoid plugging a fridge into a double adaptor.
If that checks out okay, depending on the style of fridge you own the three highest possibilities are a faulty thermostat, a jammed defrost timer, or a crook computer board/sensor.
To correctly diagnose and rectify this problem you will most likely need a qualified fridge repairer.
Fridge repair tip #4 - Motor running and fridge compartment not cold.
Again depending on the style of the fridge it could have one of several possible faults.
Firstly the refrigeration system could be low on refrigerant. Due to ozone depletion laws any leak would need locating and repair.
Not all gas leaks are economically viable to repair. Therefore the fridge may be a write-off.
The next reason could be due to an ice build up in an air duct. Another fault could be a defrost problem which again causes ice build up and air flow restriction. Evidence of these faults is sometimes visible in the rear of the freezer. A heavy frost will form on the rear wall of a frost free freezer indicating these faults.
A temporary fix for the ice build up problem is to switch off the refrigerator for 24 hours and leave the doors open. This allows the ice to defrost and the fridge will function correctly for several days until ice builds up again.
If the freezer has a fan motor this is a frost free refrigerator. The fan motor should run when the main motor (compressor, dome) is operating. When fan fails to work it may be a faulty door switch or fan motor.
